We have been looking into this bug on the Dutch Ubuntu forums as well and
indeed this is the cause:
The packages have dependencies that have a version that is not yet available in
the regular repos for Trusty.

I have by now upgraded my clients to 9.10 Karmic Koala (and Jaunty Jackalope in
between).
For me, this problem has been resolved with these upgrades and the bug can be
closed.

Public bug reported:
I have several workstations (clnt1, clnt2, clntx) with several user
accounts on each of those (usr1, usr2, usry).
If, for example, usr1 on clnt1 changes the main volume to half and then
logs off, for the next user to log in on clnt1 (f.e. usr2), the maximum
"physical" volume
I can confirm the solution provided by Cactuswhack of 2007-12-15;
installing dvgrab 3.1 will solve this issue.
