Ok, so I downgraded from 0.19.0-1 which I had manually installed from
yakkety, and installed 0.18.0-1ubuntu0.1 from xenial-proposed. I tried
one clear test so far, and it did not crash. It also seemed to log in
from wake up quite a bit faster. It would usually hang for a while

fdroidserver needs syntax for keytool and jarsigner that was added in
Java 1.7 that allows sending passwords via file on the file system or
via stdin. That version or newer is now default on Debian/jessie and
newer, and Ubuntu/trusty and newer, so I switched this package to
default-jdk and let it

Ok, I'm stuck in this mode again. I launched this firefox window from
the Terminal using "firefox &", firefox was already running. In this
window, the mouse does not work. I had to tab thru all of the links to
get to this field. Emacs launched from a Terminal is dumping the
G_IS_OBJECT messages
I purged lightdm and used my computer with gdm, and the problem still
happened. I originally had lightdm active and gdm installed. Now that
the problem also happens with only gdm, I have purged gdm and am only
using lightdm.
A couple less concrete observations:
