With bug 520582 one of the latest fixes in that area, I couldn't
reproduce any issues of this bug with ESR 128. Otherwise, there's still
one recent report in bug 1740312, so let's continue there if necessary.

As I understand at least the earliest comments, (comment 2 for example),
this seems to be about which message defines the sort order of the
threads among each other, as it can be customized by setting
[`mailnews.sort_threads_by_root`](https://searchfox.org/comm-

For the reasons explained in comment 26, I think this should be WONTFIX.
As far as I can tell, this has already been working for a long time when
sorted by "Received" (not "Order Received"). Only for unified folders,
this was recently fixed in bug 1257826 (coming in Thunderbird 137, not
yet in ESR
