Thanks Sebastien. Further investigation allowed us to identify a race
condition. It happened to be observed less without the patch but it was
still present. We were able to identify it to be specific to Eclipse.

There is a patch in the Debian/Ubuntu specific build:
debian/patches/prefer_pthread.patch
I've identified this patch to be problematic. It causes
deadlocks/freezes of the Eclipse UI. Building webkit2gtk without this
patch makes Eclipse happy.

I tried installing from the Live DVD and from the alternate install CD.
Graphic mode didn't work so I tried text mode.
I could partition my hard disks and create several mount points.
However, when it come to creation of the XFS file system the installer
fails.

I'm unable to test opening the share directly because my keyboard (old
Cherry via PS/2 adapter) doesn't work on the live CD. I'll try to
install it.

Upps, I just retried it using the same steps. After the first click on
the workgroup I got the error message reported in bug 63102. However
this time the icon changed from a blank page icon to a network computer
icon. I was able to click on it and could browse the computer in the
workgroup.
