The solution is this:
Boot into a different kernel than 2.6.32-41*, I booted into 2.6.32-40.
Now, I don't have graphics drivers installed for that kernel, so what I
did next was to ssh back into my machine from my macbook adding the -X
command (X forwarding). I then proceeded to completely remove

I also have the same problem and I've tried all the above mentioned
solutions of which none worked:
Setting up linux-image-2.6.32-41-generic (2.6.32-41.89) ...
Running depmod.
update-initramfs: deferring update (hook will be called later)
Failed to symbolic-link /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-41-generic
what is this?
