I ran into this too. The problem seems to have been that /var/run was
full.
This is a bug in the libssl package; it doesn't tell us why it failed,
only *that* it failed. Soemthing in the script is failing silently but
reporting the error upwards.

I have solved this problem in hardware.
My card (Intel 5300 AGN) has three ports for antennas. It is a 3-way
MIMO setup, and therefore requires all three antennas to be attached in
order to be fully effective. It shipped in my laptop with just one
antenna attached.

Also, there's an immediate second suspend when I suspend via means other
than the lid and then close the lid. The problem is likely that the lid
is reported on wakeup as being closed, and upower or whichever part of
the stack is responsible for suspending thinks that the lid was closed
again.

Mounting /var on tmpfs is not a supported configuration for Ubuntu;
/var/lib must be persistent.
Umm, please, please *please* read my fstab. It's like nobody's looking
at it at all. I have /var mounted from the SSD (reiserfs); it's
persistent.
Was the fix released just an hour ago? I got hit by this bug on my
server systems, which oddly enough weren't affected until the kernel
update came through last night, and I rebooted. I don't think it's the
kernels (didn't matter which kernel I chose the one time I tried a

I tracked down the problem. It's completely unrelated to encryption.
Rather, mountall.sh seems to hang if you have /var/tmp mounted
(specifically, I have /var on a separate partition from / and /var/tmp
is a tmpfs fs).

I see random window misplacement up through Karmic. Symptoms are a lag
(high system load) and then the windows get semi-randomly strewn
throughout the workspaces. I used to see it rarely with a 5 column, 4
row setup. With a 7x7 arrangement, I see it regularly.
Marking as confirmed.
Unfortunate
I'm not finding the segfault anymore. Attached is the latest log from
when it locked up

I should mention that the problem is still there; I'm just not seeing
anything interesting (that my inexpert eye can find) in xorg.0.log.
Syslog stil lshows the kernel warning that my screensaver is chewing
things up

Sometimes, when the screensaver is active, hitting a key causes xorg to lock
up. I can still log in; the system itself isn't hung. Just xorg is hung. I
see the following in the logs:
