This is the final nail in Ubuntu's coffin for me. I've been using Ubuntu
since Karmic. I think since Unity came in things have got worse. This is
a great shame. It seems with this 'solution' that no online lens
searches will be possible. How does this fit with Linux being about
choice? Why not have
I no longer have this issue as a result of some system modifications. I
changed my laptop disk arrangement so that I have two SSDs configured as
RAID0. This has had the sum effect of slightly slowing down boot time
from my previous configuration of just the one SSD. I do not use the
proprietary NVI

As a quick workaround, you could exit the low graphics mode notification
by selecting 'OK' and then selecting one of the options followed by 'OK'
(or just by pressing ESC). Then, login via the command line then enter:
sudo /etc/init.d/lightdm restart
This will then restart the desktop environment
Interestingly, I completely reinstalled 11.10 earlier today and then
did the upgrade to 12.04 again and I saw the low graphics mode problem
straight away whereas before this was not a problem.

Hi Wouter,
Thanks for this. What would you suggest as the more specific program?
Also, I'm unsure as to whether trying to restore an entire filesystem
would cause issues while on the actual machine - surely the kernel
files/drivers etc would get over-written as the machine was doing the
restore.
Thanks for the workaround Wouter. I had to modify it slightly to:
sudo mount -t cifs //NAS/Backup /mnt/NAS/ -o user=your-uid,passwd=your-
password,uid=1000
This was because:
[a] mount.cifs was not recognised, and;
[b] I couldn't get control of the /mnt/NAS/ directory so had to tell it who I
was

As per other posters I see the comment "No proprietary drivers are in
use on this system." Later in the 'Additional Drivers' dialog it states:
"This driver is activated but not currently in use." I don't see the
version it recommends, it simply says: "NVIDIA accelerated graphics

I have this problem on Maverick 64-bit. I have Rhythmbox 0.13.1 and the

I eventually solved this by switching the printer to a wired connection
rather than wireless. Prints fine now. Switching back to wireless causes
the same issue again. Wired and wireless printer connections both work

Same issue in 64-bit Lucid (10.04) using HP Photosmart c7180. Printer
simply sits there with job on the queue but never processes them.
Printer reports that is is 'Idle'. After 10 minutes of inactivity I am
forced to cancel the job. No such problem using the same printer on
32-bit Lucid (10.04).
