already been erased. My daughter recommended ubuntu, so I am sure we
will work this out. However, I cannot do my work without being online,

WOW, I filed 389194 a loong time ago. I didn't think anyone would
ever look at it again.
After thinking about this again I realize that ANY default location
for GRUB is going to be wrong for someone. Perhaps the best solution
is to force the user to explicitly choose where to put GRUB.

Using apport-collect on Ubuntu Server 10.04 it opens Launchpad in w3m,
but Launchpad doesn't work in w3m. When you try to sign in you get to a
point where you can either register, recover your password, cancel or

I don't recall the Ubuntu CD telling me where it was going to install GRUB.
So I must have missed it. I think the installation should ask instead of just
"guessing" or defaulting. That shouldn't be particularly hard to implement.

Try playing this song (mp3 turned out to be problematic as well).
It contains about 2 seconds of silence and then half a second of music.
When I play it in totem I never hear the music.
