I can confirm this bug. Also upgraded from 7.4 to 7.10 and vimoutliner
stopped working.

To make it persistent over reboots, add
tifm_sd
to /etc/modules
Whether this is an actual fix the way the ubuntu developers will do it,
I'm not sure. I suspect the proper way to do it is to load the module
only when it's needed, but I needed a quick fix :)

The same on my HP nx8220. It worked fine in Dapper, but doesn't in Edgy.
I get the same log entry:
[17193396.436000] tifm_7xx1: sd card detected in socket 3
and nothing further.

It seems that my ISP was indeed proxying the smtp connection. They seem
to have stopped and smtp works again.
