Problem that no sound device is available on my Dell Precission 5520 was
solved by a recent system update. No blacklisting of 'snd_soc_avs' was
required.
Could be that the later kernel avoids the problem or that the update
changes some kernel/system settings. The kernel after the upgrade is
6.8.0-
Strangely changing the installed system to use the 'nouveau' Nvidia
driver does NOT fix the problem.
If it help I can try a fresh 24.04 install without initially installing
the propitiatory Nvidia driver.

Problem lies in the Intel kernel driver 'snd_soc_avs' which is becoming
active but fail to support the HDA sound hardware correctly.
Workaround is to blacklist 'snd_soc_avs'.
Problem is well know and seems to be already in Kernel 6.7. See for

I see this same behaviour on 2 machines with 18.04 when I have no swap.
With swap enable the problem goes away. Bug did not exist in 17.10 or I
believe until quite late in the 18.04 development cycle.

The fix works fine. Album and Artist thumbnails are being retrieved now

Michi,
looks like your 7000 files are behaving similar to what I saw. When I
get some time I shall see if with a clear cache I also get Bad Request

Saldly nothing in /var/crash. I know where to look now!
Good luck. I shall monitor the bug in case you need more feedback/ beta
