One of the git commits that are expected to fix this issue is not in linux
kernel 3.8, which is the default on Ubuntu 13.04.
Looks that commit made it into the 3.9 kernel.
This command shows the first tagged commit after the named commit, ie.
the first 'release' that contains this commit:

I installed the DKMS alsa driver and rebooted, with no luck.
I then examined the file /usr/share/alsa/cards/HDA-Intel.conf and found
that it does not have the changes shown in the git commit referenced
above. I altered the file by applying the commit myself manually, and
rebooted again.

I always encounter this bug with .avi files, but Totem appears to work fine for
me with some other file types.
I have tried .mkv and .flv files and both worked fine in Totem. I haven't
tried very large /high bitrate mkv, mine were all fairly small.
Can anyone else confirm?
As others have said,
This probably is not a user configuration error, or configuration
clutter from an older ubuntu version.
I just did the following:
-updated my Ubuntu 10.10 install to this morning's latest updates
-created a brand new user
-rebooted

I have resolved my issue. It turns out to have been a local
configuration issue.
Although I did not have a ~/.xmodmap file, I did have an xmodmap command
in my ~/.bashrc which was intended to disable the Menu key in between
R_Super and R_Control. Apparently the keycode for Menu must have

It appears that (for today at least) I can trigger the bug at will by starting
a new shell. The PgDown command consistently breaks within a few seconds after
creating a new tab in gnome-terminal. I don't know if this is a repeatable
pattern that I never noticed before, or a change. Today I w

I currently have this bug on two different machines.
Both have had it since upgrading to Intrepid.
Both machines have NVIDIA video cards, and use the proprietary NVIDIA driver.
I had always assumed that this was to blame, rather than xorg itself.

I just edited /usr/share/quodlibet/qltk/dbus_.py:11 as in the debian

I second Rob D's comment, I also don't get the "Error grabbing key"
message.
Furthermore, I confirmed the keys are "grab-able" with the following test:
1. Open quodlibet
2. Try using multimedia keys to control quodlibet -- no effect
3. Without closing quodlibet, open Rhythmbox
4. Try using mul
