I did the original reinstall because apt-xapian-index crashed. I forced
the package to download fresh for the first (failed) reinstall and for
the second (successful) one. All three .deb files had the same checksum,
though.

I've set up a dual boot on this system between Lubuntu 12.04 64-bit and
XBMCbuntu (based on Lubuntu 11.10 32-bit). The 32-bit installation does
not manifest this problem; the keyboard/touch pad works in both modes. I
can upload logs or settings from this installation if needed.
