I have the same problem, with Calc on a Natty Installation from Scratch.
The problem occur only when I copy with menu or with ctrl+c a complete line
in unity, gnome or lxde and x86-32 or x86-64.
In background the system is Ok, with webmin I can do all function.
New probook HP 6460b with 4 Gb
With this file, I have solved any problem,
and don't have the series of error message after the manual execution of
program:

My actual status:
I I manually running :
sudo start dbus
sudo start hal
sudo start network-manager
sudo start gdm
from terminal gnome and network starting.

I found the same problem during an hard update (107) package.
My Problem is in scrollkeeper package, I found in dmseg than the
segfault is caused from this package.
I reinstalled this and the problem is solved.

Binary package hint: update-manager
During upgrade process, grub is removed probably for dependency problem.
But grub is essential for install and activate the new kernel version.
In my case the dependency is caused from "debian-edu-artwork" package .
** Affects: update-m
My problem was, during upgrade process from 8.10 a dependency (in my
case debian-edu-artwork) remove the grub package and without this the
post-installation script don't execute grub-upgrade.
I solved in this mode: manually removed debian-edu-artwork and
reinstalled grub from synaptic.

This is a italian educational version of ubuntu 7.04.
I removed this package and the upgrade procceding.
