Yeah, this is not a kernel bug. It's in gnome-settings-daemon. I can
log in as other users after this happens and everything's fine.

An update: it looks like it's not a string validation problem. I was
told that the passwords assigned to users were plain alphanumerics.
This sounds more like database corruption now.

It happened again, and this time I'm pretty sure it's not a kernel

After a reboot, I lost the ability to move the mouse cursor, except it

It just happened again and I noticed after the first reboot that the

This happened again last night. I used the touchpad disable (it's a
habit that I'm having trouble breaking), and when I re-enabled it, the
mouse could move around, but I couldn't type anywhere or register clicks
on anything.
I had to break out into a console (ctrl-alt-f1), from which I tried

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: network-manager-openvpn
Using a key that requires a password in a known-working (outside of
network manager) setup, nm-ovpn does not provide the password to the
VPN. Here's a snippet from syslog:
Mar 25 12:13:53 localhost NetworkManager: Starting VPN
Additionally, it looks like the -gnome package alone cannot initiate a
connection, but requires the main package in order to do so. (I removed
the shorter one and was not able to try connecting). The deps should
probably reflect that.

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xorg
There's a chance this is more of a kernel bug than an xorg bug. I'm not
sure.
My HP Pavilion dv5t has a touchpad-disable button that's sometimes
necessary when typing at a long stretch and you don't want to
accidentally center-click in the window.
