as it affects me and I use
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=10.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=lucid
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS"
with an LTS at the end, it should be fixed here too.
I would be happy to transfer the fix for Maverick to lucid if I have
some advice from someone knowlegeable.

modem chip
jaunty, nm is actual as per above;
/dev/ttyUSB0 is created but not recognized with nm
