I just realized that this isn't a recent regression: it was a regression
in 11.10. I had previously worked around it via the udev edit described
in http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1852013.html ; my
workaround was clobbered in an update.
So this is a duplicate of bug 854814.

Running `eject -i 1` is supposed to lock the cd drive so it can't be
ejected:
$ eject -i 1
CD-Drive may NOT be ejected with device button
Until a few weeks ago, this worked properly: after this command, neither
running `eject` nor pressing the device eject button would open

I have the same problem on Gutsy with my Thinkpad X60s. It's the same
