When I posted in 2011 I was still new to using Linux on a system with
multiple hard drives, though I had used it for longer on a single-drive
system. Ubuntu, and Linux distros in general,

backup files" in nautilus' Edit > Preferences > Views. At least that
will change your default so you won't be reverting to showing hidden
every time you open a nautilus window. It won't remember your use of

In case anyone else finds this bug before a solution, I believe it's
possible to turn down or mute the volume on the greeter screen and the
setting will be persistent. There was a bug with this but it's reported
fixed.

Same here, attempted to install Chrome stable .deb 64-bit using the
save-and-open option from Firefox, going with the default of allowing
Software Center to do the installation.
On a second attempt I saved the .deb in my Downloads folder and then installed
it from a shell using:

I had this bug back when Saucy was new, and the fix for it back then
worked.
It returned today for the first time on Saucy (fully updated). "killall
unity-panel-service" worked as an immediate fix, but I hope the bug does
not return. This was on a fresh boot. Apparently something
regressed?
I also confirm that starting:
UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= banshee
launches banshee with working equalizer -- with, of course, the banshee menu
right inside the top of the banshee window instead of proxied to the top of the
screen. I am on Saucy, 13.04 with all updates.

Well, this may be good news --
Ctrl+E still activates the equalizer! I had not thought to try it
before since the option was grayed out on the View menu.
I suppose that is probably easier to deal with (though also lower
priority) than if the equalizer was becoming totally inacces

a recent update. Before the indicator-session fix, I did not have any
problem with indicator-datetime. Now I do.
Logging out and back in takes care of it, I don't have to reboot.
