Same problem for me. every boot my keyboard layout it english. but the
only keyboar layout i installed is german. i have to click on "german"
to activate it again.

it seems, that the problem is gone. maybe one of the last ubuntu updates
remove this error.

It happens also in 12.04. 12.10 and 13.04. But only if the amd radeon
drivers for the hd5870 are installed. without them, no freeze but a 100%
gpu fan speed
