I am running 13.04 with the linux-image-3.8.0-26-generic kernel and
experienced this problem.
The best way I found to reproduce the problem systematically is by
playing "Revenge of the Titans": after at most 5 minutes the system hung
for a few seconds and afterward it was slow/choppy with video
ac
I tested the 3.8.0-030800rc4 (amd64) on my Compaq 6910p ( ATI Mobility
Radeon X2300) and the problem is still there.

Basically glxgears is not a good benchmark.
In order to compare the graphic performance of two releases, you need at
least to compare results from something such as http://www.phoronix-
test-suite.com/
This problem remains in Ubuntu 9.10.
In a Nautilus window the search button tooltip is:
"Locate documents and folders on this computer by name or content"
But clicking on it only reveals the interface to search documents and
folders by name.

How do I find out the program in question?
In the menu it says Applications->Accessories->CD/DVD Creator.
When opening it, a window called "CD/DVD Creator" appears. About says it
is nautilus, but this is not the cd/dvd creator program.

Booting from the Hardy RC CD.
Selecting Install option.
It comes to the desktop, and reports "Failed to initialize HALD".
What follows it the dmesg output, showing a kernel crash (as attachment,
many information from proc/lspci/lsusb):

Same problem.
I solved it by editing /etc/network/interfaces
I deleted all lines except for:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
Now the NetworkManager applet works correctly.
