I still see the issue with a brand new dell xps 13 9333 and ubuntu 14.04
just installed fresh.
One temporary workaround (works only a few minutes) is to close the lid
and put the system to sleep. When waking back up, sounds play without
the crackling/popping/clicking noises for a short while.

I don't think this should be limited to just cases where WM_WINDOW_ROLE
is set. As someone else commented, virtually no applications have
WM_WINDOW_ROLE set, and so only remembering window positions for apps
that do set it would not really address the problem.

Thunderbird stopped starting for me this morning after the update. I
don't know if this bugfix was included in the update or not.
But deleting the broken private links in my home folder (.mozilla-
thunderbird and .thunderbird) and renaming the .thunderbird-upstream
folder back to .mozilla-thunder

Same here, I hit escape and got "general error mounting filesystems"

I uninstalled ooo and tried the openoffice 3.1 from openoffice.org site
and it crashed on launch when trying to open a .doc file.
I uninstalled that, deleted the .openoffice folder and re-installed the

One thing you should do is upgrade to the latest acroread (version 9).
It is no longer provided by the medibuntu repository. It's in the
Canonical Partner repository (see Software Sources->Third Party
Software).

Your acroread wasn't upgraded when you upgraded to jaunty.
acroread was silently dropped from medibuntu, because it is now part of
the Canonical Partner repository. So you need to uninstall it, and then
enable the Canonical Partner repository under

I saw this with an Acer Aspire One - trying to upgrade it from regular
Ubuntu to UNR.
Perhaps some check could be run (graphics memory <= 8mb) and disable
visual effects if you install the ubuntu-netbook-remix package.
