I compiled sane-backends-1.0.25+git20150102 and changed the old libsane.so with
the new one.
Scanner is now working: CanoScan LiDE 25.

Update
After starting and stopping dbus, lightdm and reinstalling lightdm and
ubuntu-desktop, now I can login with a new user but no way to use an older one

I have the same problem using GDM.
So, I think it's not related to lightdm.
In .xsession-errors I read dbus terminated with status 2.
What can I do to track down the problem and get my system working again?

I tried to reinstall (not a fresh installation) but that doesn't resolve the
issue.
If I login with my old user the desktop doesn't show.
If I use a new user, after login and password, the system returns to the login
screen.

The scanner is pugged in a USB 2 port. The kernel is x
