Recently noticed there's actually an easy way to reproduce this bug in
my system. Just putting the cursor over the sound indicator icon and
scrolling the mouse wheel for a few seconds causes pulseaudio process to
terminate.
I created a ~/.pulse/client.conf with a line
autospawn = no

I came here to report this as a flaw and found that it was reported
already. I consider this a serious annoyance that needs to be adressed.
It's dissapointing to see this report was here for nearly a year and

After upgrading the kernel image from 2.6.32-24.37 to 2.6.32-24.38 I
can't no longer suspend to RAM. The screen becomes black but the laptop
doesn't enter in suspend state. Of course it's impossible to restore, I
have to shutdown by holding the power switch a few seconds.
My laptop is a Dell Latit
The problem apparently is in the Intel graphics driver.
Meanwhile I'm using the vesa driver, I had to edit the /etc/default/grub file:

currently is to suspend at least once in order to get the cpu fan to work
normally after restoring.
