Sebastien: If you boot OSX and switch to a standard PC mbr (they call it
something like that) via the disk-utility, you might avoid this problem.
Grub worked fine on my single-boot setup after making this change.

In reference to my comment above, it holds the speed during a reboot
from OSX to Ubuntu (using refit). It's a step in the right direction, I

appending lpj=1000 at boot fixes this 100% of the time for me.
10mil for 2Ghz
8mil for the 1.8_hz (apparently)

This may be a fix.
A new GPL'ed OSX application called "smcFanControl" allows a user to
control the minimum fan speed on Intel MacBooks through a simple
interface. It appears that this minimum fan speed setting carries over
into Edgy without issue on a multi-boot system, but more testing is
needed
The above solution did not work on my MacBook (latest Edgy updates)

Henk Koster: Installing network-manager (nm-applet) now fixes this
problem. Works flawlessly; in fact, I prefer this method (for ease of
use) over those implemented in WinXP and OSX.
