The apport-collect program doesn't seem to work - I'm behind a firewall. I've tried running apport-cli --package=linux and that reports No pending crash reports. Try --help for more information. which is not surprising because nothing is crashing. What information does apport-collect gather

Some more information: I enabled "Wake-up on LAN" in the BIOS. Now both the alarm clock and the shutdown are working as expected! My guess: something in the kernel detects that the machine has started automagically, misdiagnoses it as a lan wakeup, sees the feature is disabled and handles the wak

If it helps ... I just installed Jaunty (64-bit) on a new machine with a GeForce 9800GT and the Free driver doesn't control the fan. The proprietary driver is OK, but obviously not the ideal solution. Personally I think this is a hardware issue, as the machine is very noisy until the OS loads the

I hit this problem too. I tried setting http_proxy from the xterm before launching synaptic with sudo, but sudo discards environment variables. If I'd had my brain in gear I might have tried "sudo su" and then set http_proxy before running synaptic, but I worked around the problem by creating a wra
