I can confirm this too.
On Ubuntu 7.04. Quite bad that the CDROM isn't useable after installation.

I get this error when I have two SATA's and 2 PATA HDD's plugged in.
Two SATAs work fine.
1 SATA and 1 PATA work fine.

Thank Wladston, That does fix the problem yes, but the cause of the
problem still has to be fixed so that other users of Ubuntu aren't
deterred from using Ubuntu because it doesn't boot up.
The easiest way to start a system like this is to press "e" to edit the
grub line, and change the /dev/hda1

Just wondering, is this being worked on?
It's a major issue, as it makes Ubuntu uninstallable on a brand new PC with a
standard SATA HDD and PATA DVDRW.

I got this issue with Alacarte 0.11.3-0ubuntu2.
1) I installed 'lyx' from local DVD (repositories) using synaptic.
2) It didn't show up in the Office menu entry (Applications-> Office).
Not there.
3) Yet it was there when you "Edit menus" (alacarte).
4) To make it show up I had to untick it fro

1) Right click the time
2) click "Adjust date and time"
3) Make the time one hour earlier.
The time then doesn't update. Only when the minute ticks over.
Changing the time FORWARD (ie. one hour forward, immediately changes the
time displayed).

2) Click Search, type "nfs" (for example)
3) Click "Edit"->"Unmark All" in the menu at the top.

I think the software should detect that it is broken and recover from it.
