I tried ubuntu 17.10 (live) and it seems thing changed.
When I try to test an ISO file, in the right click menu there is no more
a "Write to Disc..." option.
The closest thing is "Open With Disk Image Writer", which then ask for the
destination drive, but does not allow the DVD unit (there is a
Ofer, is that a fix for the missing driver or the "Creating object for
path" issue?
I also have the second problem on a 14.10 live system.
Probably a new bug should be opened for that issue.

It is the same. Inserted CD not mounted.
I tried the latest daily from the URL above on the same hardware.
The files manager app does not show any trace of the CD. If I moust it
with " sudo mount /dev/sr2 /mnt" it all starts working, a new file
manager windows appears with CD content, and an item
I see the same graphic problem an a real PC. So:
- it is hardware independent (read: if you're interested, you can most
probably reproduce it)
- this is not actually the bug I opened here (hang versus broken toolbar)

version gives the mentioned "no space" error.
After updating to -ubuntu3.1* it works without giving that error.

I burned some files to a DVD+RW media (why does it eject after burning?
Burners don't need that for 10 years now).
After that, when I insert this DVD+RW, the DVD icon disappears from
nautilus.
If I start brasero like you suggested and go to the Tools/Blank... menu,
the dialog that appears claims
Focus stealing is a general problem.
You can not just pretend it went away just because nobody made any more
comments to the bug report.

Now, with Ubuntu 11.04, I also noticed the Blank item is missing
sometimes even when the DVD is mounted.

I inserted a written DVD+RW , right clicked its icon on desktop and selected
"Blank Disc...".
In the dialog where the "Fast blanking" option was preselected, I clicked the
"Blank" button.
After one minute of DVD unit activity the disc was ejected and immediately
pulled bac
I can't.

- insert CD
- open a Nautilus windows for some folder, e.g. $HOME/Documents
- drag the CD iscon from desktop into the Nautilus windows folder area
Expected result:
The CD contents are copied to the folder
Actual result:
Error dialog:

Please read the original report.
The problem is not that the window does not get the correct decoration, but
that the active and inactive are almost identical.
