Turning on "Force full screen redraws (buffer swap) on repaint" resolved
the flickering - yay! I attached a screen shot of the setting.

I had the exact same problem as Chauncellor. I uninstalled wine using
synaptic, then installed 1.2, which solved this issue and left my few
wine apps intact and working fine.
