I can confirm this bug on the same motherboard. Removing the PCI video
card allows the system to boot.
Note: I have tested this with

- A custom debian boot disk (that I use for troubleshooting)
I can perform further testing on request as the machine is curre
It appears that they can both be installed if they are installed in the
opposite order.
1) Install google-earth (may not be required, but I already had it)
2) Install wine (it will remove google-earth)
3) Re-install google-earth
Interrestingly enough, step 3 did NOT remove wine! I now have both

Public bug reported:
I believe I have found a packaging bug for either wine or google earth.
Since there is no ubuntu-hosted copy of google-earth (the official docs
say to use google's .deb) I am filing this under wine.
=== What Happened ===
I should be able to install both google-earth and wine
Just confirming that I get the exact same output when running the exact
same command (as well as with only --cflags) as the original poster. I
can confirm this on both 32 bit and 64 bit. Also, ncurses++ (which I
belive pulls in ncurses) is also affected.

I am not currently working on this system anymore (I was only there to

This is not a bug, but a feature request. Actually more of a "default

If not, is it possible to roll-back certain packages to get it working

Using Intrepid (everything updated) and I get this problem (but with

I'm not sure if it's the same problem because restarting Empathy and
deleting/re-adding the account does not fix the problem.

I take it this was only fixed for jaunty?

Gah, remembered just after I hit "submit"
I was messing around with remote desktop before it happened.
I tried changing "Disable the wallpaper when connected" which worked fine. But
once I rebooted, I could no longer get a wallpaper at all except for about 1.5
seconds during the login phase.
I am running Ubuntu Intrepid (8.10) 64 bit.
I don't remember doing a whole lot prior to it happening (it was a while
ago). I "may" have attempted installing Firefox 3.5, but I can't exactly
remember. Sorry.

@Bryce
Sorry, but I am no longer running Jaunty due to not only the video card
problem, but also the fact that my HD was getting corrupted on a daily basis (I
was barely able to recover it). I no longer suffer these problems in Intrepid,
so I'm going to hold out until Karmic comes out and give t
I had this problem on a desktop machine. It appeared to have a floppy drive,
but it was not plugged in.
After checking the BIOS, I discovered it was set as having a floppy on channel

After setting the BIOS to "No Floppy", the problem went away and it is
now working just fine.

GreatBunzinni, from what I've read in this and other forums, along with
KDE's website, it is not ubuntu that is treating KDE users like beta
testers, it is KDE itself.
Ubuntu has, and has had for a long time,
This bug is happening in MANY applets:

-switch-user
-maybe others (those are the one I use that are affected).
I am running Jaunty (Beta), and this is kind of a big issue. Applets
should ALWAYS adopt the panel's background.

I would also like to add my vote to having amarok1.4 in Jaunty.
Not only is 1.4 the best music player I have EVER used and the fact that

I installed the ubuntu-restricted-extras package but amarok still
