This problem hit me on a xenial install with HWE and linux-generic-
hwe-16.04 with generic kernels 4.8.0-52 and 4.8.0-53. Problem is
alleviated by using the mainline kernel 4.12-rc2.
Please note: I cannot use the vers=3.0 workaround as described above
because one of my servers is running Windows S
Ok, I am not an Ubuntu user, but suffered from the same problem with
archlinux. And I have found a solution (at least for me, hope it works
for you too).
Short my problem:

Hi Jeremy,
I did try it on the mainline kernel 2.6.33-020633-generic and the same
bug happened and the same work-around works.
Thanks,

I may have inadvertently found a work-around.
As a test, I blacklisted e1000 by editing:
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
blacklist e1000
I then ran:
update-initramfs -u -k `uname -r`
I rebooted and logged in and ran
sudo modprobe e1000
The previous netcat tests exhibited the failure within 30
It just happened again and I wrote a little log... Hopefully this

I forgot to mention that after I connected my cable to the onboard

@Chris Halse Rogers: Some of us have more than two displays or are using
displays from two different GPU's. Sadly, Twinview only works for two
displays on the same GPU. I agree that Twinview works very nice, but
there are some configurations where Xinerama is a necessity.

Public bug reported:
When xinerama is enabled and you move the mouse between monitors, there
is a mouse cursor left in the screen that the pointer just left.
The cursor should disappear on all screens that the pointer is not on.

I just wanted to add that I had the same problem out of a fresh install
of Ubuntu 8.10 desktop for x86_64. I experienced the mouse problem
several minutes after running vmware. My system has four displays, so
disabling xinerama is not an option for me. I downgraded xorg just like

Sorry, the bug is actually xorg related. I noticed that xorg detects
the lcd panel size as 1024x768, but uses 800x600, refusing to try
1024x768 because of 'bad mode clock/interlace/doublescan'. I suppose
installer functionality at 800x600 is not important. I'll try to
close/withdraw this bug.
