A patch to fix this was uploaded under bug #729499 on 2011-03-04. A patched package is available in my ppa, tests ok in Maverick; I haven't upgrade to Natty yet. I wouldn't hold your breath for an official fix though. If I remember correctly, the system tray is being depreciated and bugs like this
