Still getting this on 17.04 too. Running XFCE now, but was previously
running Unity. Two monitors, one on VGA, one on DVI, both stay on when
display is locked.

Actually, I do have some more info:
My host is still Precise (12.04.1), I upgraded one of my VMs to 12.10.
Now that VM refuses to boot and shows the same symptoms: black screen
with high CPU usage.
All other VMs still work fine.
I'm considering upgrading my host to 12.10 but I'm a little wary.
Incomplete -> Expired?

I'm on vacation and will get back to you on this bug when I'm back at work
(beginning of September).
KVM is working, I have other VMs working just fine, I'll get the output of
the kvm-ok command when I'm back at my (work) PC.

Trying to install 12.04 server into a KVM VM.
The CD image boots fine to the language selection screen but after I
choose "Install Ubuntu Server" the screen goes black and stays that way.
This is using VNC to capture the output of a Cirrus virtual video
adapter.
