I actually don't know python modules are re-packaged in Debian/Ubuntu; I just
wanted to note here that fonttools' source code is both py2- and
py3-compatible, thus there's no py2-only or py3-only parts that could be
packaged separately.

I can confirm that I have the same problem.
I had been looking for a solution to this really annoying problem (unity
doesn't hide) and I bumped into this bug report.
I tried pressing numlock and unity finally disappeared.
It's still annoying, but at least there is a temporary workaround.

I can confirm this with gutsy Tribe3 dist-upgraded with the latest changes.
I think this should be marked as critical, as it makes the whole system
unusable if you don't know how to manually restart GDM.
I can provide any kind of information if you want.
