I know this isn't the ideal solution, but it's the simple one, and will
probably do until someone with better knowledge of cairo rendering has
time to work on this.
I disabled multiplpe pages in pdf+latex output, see my branch:

Isn't it possible to get a quick fix to roll back #771957, ie just
render a flat PDF without text and then use latex to put all text on
top?
