after I installed Ubuntu 12.10 (Had no such problem with 12.04). I had
to reboot the machine every day or two as the UI was becoming very
unresponsive and Xorg was using a lot of CPU.

Well, my guess was that you had the setting "Start minimized" enabled.
This is why I asked you to remove the configuration file to reset of
default settings.
If the setting "start minimized" is enabled and if the tray icon is not
working (like on Unity), then you don't see the window and there is

Similar issue here. Often, applications freeze and I have to kill them
(qtcreator for example). Sometimes, it is even worse and the whole
system freezes and I need to reboot.
After a system freeze, I tried to use CTRL+ALT+Fx then check dmesg and
Xorg log but there was nothing strange in those. I'm

happen EVERY time).

I tried to reproduce yesterday (with Ubuntu maverick and qBittorrent
v2.4.0) but it seemed to work fine. How long does it take to eat so much
memory?
Also, Qt has been updated to 4.7 stable very recently on Maverick.
Please make sure this does not solve the issue.

Note that I have the exact same issue on a E4310. This is not specific
to E6410.
Also, it was working fine a few days ago and was broken by a recent
package update in Maverick (I don't know which one exactly).

Also note that Ubuntu 10.10 is using an unstable version of Qt 4.7.
I'm personally using qBittorrent 2.4.0 on Ubuntu v10.04 and I do not
notice any issue.

I see that Ubuntu also updated libtorrent to v0.15.x (Used to be libtorrent
v0.14.x).
I'm not sure that the issue actually comes from qBittorrent but I will make
some tests.

I confirm that the microphone is not working on my Latitude E4310,
neither with kernel 2.6.32 nor 2.6.35 (from xorg edgers).
I'm using Ubuntu Lucid.

It seems this is caused by a bug in eglibc. This bug has been fixed in
v2.12 but Ubuntu Lucid ships v2.11.1.

Disabling barriers on my ext4 partition seems to help.
in /etc/fstab:

None of these versions comes from Ubuntu Lucid Official repository. The
first one comes from my karmic PPA (outdated for your Lucid) and the
second one comes from Deluge PPA.
I'm not exactly sure why Deluges compiles v0.14.10 for Lucid
