Done some more testing and it only happens when I have 'desktop effects'

I haven't done any linux devel before but I am a windows programmer by day.
How hard would it be to fix this bug by allowing samba passwords to be set
in the shared folders box? Would it be a c or a python prog

When I insert a usb drive nautilus pops up a file browsing window. It I
close that window as soon as it comes up then a nautilus process uses
all my idle cpu until I reboot or kill that process. Killing the
process seems to have no bad effects.

I have given up on the 64 bit version and gone with the 32bit.
I have a feeling that the problem was caused by me attempting to use xfs
for the root partition and ext3 for the /boot partition.
