Sorry, I don't consider this "Fix released" without a fix being released
for the current release, 8.10 - Intrepid, at least!
Can we please get it reset back to "Confirmed" until a fix really has
been released ?

I can happily report that (for IA-32 at least) those proposed -11 kernel
seems to work for me (as does 2.6.28-rc8 which I'm using from day to

I also discovered that even the -9 kernel that's currently out there
doesn't have the problem if you don't have desktop effects enabled in
KDE4 (obvio
Indeed it did fix it, I can now install the kernel packages that make-
kpkg generates under Intrepid 8.10.
Thanks Brian, much appreciated!

I find that with Intrepid I am getting the same issue with the standard
kernels, in other words I can't install a custom kernel package at all
as it conflicts with files from the linux-firmware package that are
stored directly in /lib/firmware. :-(
I'll try Brian's fix that's gone upstream to see
I can confirm that suspend also works with CPU1 offlined.

I'm having the same issue with my new work Dell E4200 with Intel Mobile

a black X screen with the mouse pointer locked solid.
I can also confirm that the work around of taking CPU1 offline prior to

I just ran into this same bug having upgraded to Intrepid from Hardy
(Kubuntu) using do_release_upgrade.
One thing I note is that in the KDE desktop effects (advanced options)
section the "Use VSync" option was enabled, so I've disabled that now
and will see if it reoccurs in case it's related to
Still happening here, just had to kill off nspluginviewer to release

This affects Intrepid, I just upgraded a laptop from Hardy to Intrepid
with "do-release-upgrade -d" and have run into this.
On the other hand it appears that run_parts is not a typo, but is a
shell function defined in /etc/gdm/Xsession which isn't getting used in
this case.
