Yes sounds possible. I didn't have much luck disabling splash - it
resolved the white screen with black lines, but the text was usually
just corrupt blocks.

Hi Rodney
No the keyring password is definitely the same as the login password. I
literally have to type one and then the other - so categorically the
same!

Thanks for your swift response Dave...
1. No, I am not using auto login.
2. Empathy is installed, but is not running, according to ps aux | grep empathy.
If I run Chat, then yes it prompts for keyring password immediately.
3. Correct.

After logging into Ubuntu 12.04 (not auto-login), a few seconds later,

I solved my problem by setting "chmod 444" on the certificate and key

previously set "chmod 400".

A temporary fix for me was to locate librtmp.so.0 on my system and
symlink it into /usr/lib/
E.g.
$ locate librtmp.so.0

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/i486-linux-gnu/librtmp.so.0 /usr/lib/librtmp.so.0

I am logging in with a password (i.e. not auto-login) and after about 10

Thankfully Muhali's method worked for me as well. I look forward to a

The first attachment display_non_U was actually another copy of xorg.0.log.
Perhaps you could re-attach the output of:
sudo lshw -C display; lsb_release -a
from the non-working machine.
But according to the xorg files, we have some interesting kernels in
use:
2.6.24-29-xen : no unity
2.6.
Also please include the output from:
sudo lshw -C display; lsb_release -a
and please ensure you are fully up-to-date before doing so.
Thanks.

Thanks. Please attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log and also /var/log/syslog for
the one that is not working in Unity.

Does either have an /etc/X11/xorg.conf file? I think mostly this is no

still has one which is messing things up.

This doesn't sound much like a Firefox bug, I have changed to Unity

As to why it might work on one release and not another, I suspect it is
down to the graphics driver that you had running in each. In the fresh
