The alternate disc worked without a hitch. With the normal disc, I
couldn't get far enough to even attempt to install since it would always
crash when loading.

Yes I mean 11.04 Alpha 3. Never needed to use the alternate install disc

When attempting to boot Ubuntu 10.10 Alpha 3, it just randomly crashes
before it can ever get to the desktop. Using a Pentium 4 processor, PC
was bought in '06.
