I keep having this problem as well and just fired up empathy-debugger.
I then filtered it only to show Empathy.Auth messages and it looks like
there is a timeout to the server. I have attached this log (with only
the auth messages in it). If anything else is required please let me
know.

I can confirm that using 1.9.0-2 from precise-backports resolves the
issue. I have installed that on both systems where it was failing and
after rebooting they both seem to fire up conky immediately after login
without fault. Thanks!

I had resolved this problem in 11.10 a few days ago by manually updating
the url in /usr/share/pyshared/papyon/service/description/AB/__init__.py
from this:

I can confirm this is happening to me in 11.10 as well. I did not have
this issue in 11.04. Just to add to this, the problem only seems to
occur for new Chrome windows. I can fix it for a single window and then
