This still happens in 14.04 beta2 on a virtualbox (4.3.10) install,
using a dynamically allocated VDI format virtual disk (size of disk
doesn't appear to matter).
Before installing (just using the live image), sudo parted -l shows
details for /dev/sr0, but for the drive I'm planning to install to,
