Huh.. no it's not okay to turn it into a guide.. People have been using
gnome-terminal as root for years. Lecturing them on the dangerousity of
their ways is just an excuse not to fix the bug.
I do not mean to attack you personally, but I just hate it when people

The proposed update works on 8.04 x86_64, but I had to add the users to
the vboxusers group manually. If that's the normal behavior, it's OK.

i solved the problem with the screen by doing --> sudo dpkg-reconfigure
-phigh xserver-xoD
but my screen still freezes!!
i'm using Ubuntu 8.04, i have 1GB ram, intel pentium 4 CPU 3 Ghz

Same problem here, loading takes about 30-40 secsm; deskbar applet and tracker
are turned off.
Clean install Ubuntu 7.10, using compiz with nv 8600gt card, P4 3Ghz cpu 1 Gb
RAM.

the bug was due to wrong dependancy or a bug somewhere in dpkg/apt : I
had to upgrade python-central first.
However, "apt-get dist-upgrade" should have done that for me..
