happens with:
linux-oem-20.04d/focal-updates 5.14.0.1011.11
does not happen with:
linux-oem-20.04c/focal-updates,now 5.13.0.1022.26
so I assume the problematic patch causing this issue was backported to
20.04d. if so

in focal, the service fails because of that condition:

sorry for the noise, it's a problem on my system which is a kde neonized
ubuntu where the ID in /etc/os-release is set to neon. once switching
back to ubuntu fwupd worked...

I installed fwupd and fwupd-signed from -proposed and removed fwupdate
as a update for my bios is available I would like to upgrade but:
$ fwupdmgr update

unfortunately system firmware on my xps13 does not as fwupd complains about
missing signed bootloader:
"UpdateError: missing signed bootloader for secure boot:
/usr/lib/fwupd/efi/fwupdx64.efi.signed cannot be f
in any case someone faces the same problem, installing
bluez_5.46-0ubuntu3_amd64.deb from artful (together with libreadline7)
solved the problem for me.

and with the workaround from bug 994921, it refuses to report the bug
because it's not an official kde package (well for sure it is not...)
and I have to remove some third party packages...
