Great - but would still like a fix for 8.10 though. I'm sure development
will be thrilled if I say I have to upgrade 100 workstations to fix a
bash bug :-)(mind you - the programmers wont mind. "downtime yeh!")

Further to this, I tried a few experiments. First I tried recompiling bash from
source, but it didn't make any difference. Then I noticed that if you ran a new
bash shell after logging in (i.e. just running bash), then the problem went
away.
So it only happens in the initial bash shell from

Binary package hint: bash
This happens as follows:
1. In home directory with the default .profile and default .bash_profile
2. ssh to your machine (using gnome-terminal or suchlike works ok).
3. Create a simple script containing the single line
ls -al
(anything will do).
Yes - in fact it's worse. (I'm not original poster - but see symptoms).
Running 2.0.0.18 (20081125) on 8.10 on a Dell e6400.
I can type about 30 characters in the compose window and then go wait
about 30 seconds to see it.

A similiar thing is happening to me on my Dell e6400 running 8.10. It
only seems to happen when I'm running a dual head display. When I'm at
home, with only the laptop display (i.e. now) I can't make it happen.

Confirmed also on 6.06 and D620. I have to boot into windows to run
presentations - that 6Gb of my disk wasted.
Please someone fix this!
