I no longer have this Canon Lide 30, scrapped it year or two ago. If I
recall correctly this affected Precise 12.04 as well, but I have no way
to test it now.

wowo, I believe that "From Linux manual: Options for NFS versions 2 and
3 only. nfsvers=n:" isn't unambiguous at least for me it worked like
this. With nfsvers=4 exactly same problems come up as with nfs4. Setting
this nfsvers=3 resolves it but downgrades protocol to nfs3.

How about:
start on (mounted MOUNTPOINT=/tmp and mounted MOUNTPOINT=/usr)
Somehow this mounted-tmp.conf has to block others until it has done.

I have now tried with Hardy, with strange results. It worked sometimes,
but other times (still) the cracking noise appeared. Now I tested it
more thoroughly so I'm not sure if anything has changed. In year 2007 it
seemed not to work at all, but then I didn't "push" it as hard as this
time.

When I try to use Xsane, scanner initializes fine, but when scanning
should start it makes loud cracking noise like trying to move reading
head to wrong direction. This same problem appeared in Dapper and Edgy
with all updates.
