This bug still exists and has existed for a while. I can use dracut
fine in Debian without conflict but this bug really impairs usage in
Ubuntu. Is this something we could prioritize to fix in Bionic?

It appears that the latest i40e driver in Trusty is 0.3.36-k. We've
been experiencing some kernel panics with this driver and have found
that it looks like bringing the driver up to the latest 1.2.48 has
alleviated some of the kernel panics on boot.

The installer initrd is missing the i40e modules for ethernet cards like
the Intel X710. I was able to grab the latest from Intel's site,
compile the driver, respin the initrd, and get the installer to work:
