The workaround worked for me too.
Thanks!

Well, the problem seems to be with fglrx.
I've updated the proprietary driver to version 8.42.3 and it stoped crashing,
but visualization display is corrupted (it shows only a big blurry image
composed of what could be described as colored big pixels [lol]).

I can confirm the bug too. With me happens the same since Gutsy Beta.
I thought that it was only a bug in my upgrade from feisty, but now with a
fresh install of Gutsy final the problem persists.
Here's a screenshot. Using the complete clearlooks theme.

Thanks for your reply, Sebastien.
It works with the opensource driver. Oddly, It works too with the
proprietary driver and totem (thw same visualization system trough
different programs).
Even more strangely, visualization with Rhythmbox works with the
proprietary driver if started with gdb.

Well, tried to backtrace the problem, but with no success since It

Same here. My power manager also fails to start on the startup because
of this.

Agreed. The dictionary files should be changed.
I think that these changes would be benefical for both, PT-BR and PT-BR users.
