I have a feeling that there might be something wrong with my laptop
hardware. Have you guys tried another linux distributon or windows? I
feel like its not a kernel problem as I have tried different kernels
ranging from 2.6.15 to kernel from kernel.org and he same problem
persists.

I am having same problem with ipw2200 on Dell 600m though I don't know
