This bug goes away after updating Rhythmbox to version 3.2.1 following
the instructions in http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2014/10/upgrade-
to-rhythmbox-3-1-ubuntu-14-04/ using fossfreedom's PPA

I forgot to note earlier that (at least for me) the crash is not due to
any extra plugins. This was using rhythmbox straight out the box from
Ubuntu 14.04.

I've been getting similar crashes to the above description. After adding
a few songs to a playlist, the playlist name disappears and rhythmbox
crashes.
I suspect it may be this upstream bug

Same in Lucid release.
I created a bootable live-USB of Ubuntu 10.4 netbook on partitioned USB
stick /dev/sdb2. I tried installing to empty partition /dev/sdb3. The
installer stops with message reported above "Failed to unmount
partition" "The installer needs to commit changes to partition tables
Just had this myself. Problem was caused by a bad download of the package.
(Maybe there was a problem with this package - had issues on another computer,
but they resolved themselves on re-trying.)
A reboot did *not* fix the problem. Instead I renamed the bad package then
successfully ran the up

Grub (v1) package now occupies a massive amount of disk space (9.10 karmic

Version is 0.97-29ubuntu57, stated size is 540 MB.
Most of this comes from the massive files put in /usr/lib/grub/i386-pc, see
listing below.

This has happened again after a new round of updates. I've attached a
screenshot of the update-manager window showing the 4 updates for
version 2.6.28.13.45. Clicking "Install updates" flashes that button for
about 1/2 second, nothing more. Clicking "Check" rescans the
repositories, removes those 4

Binary package hint: update-manager
I've frequently found update-manager displaying a set of updates, but
clicking the "Install Updates" button has no effect (it's not greyed out
either). If I hit "Check" update-manager refreshes the list, then
"Install Updates" works properl

I've just confirmed this bug is still true with Feisty Herd 5 Xubuntu
desktop CD on a 128MB system (which includes 2MB shared graphics ram).
The CD will very slowly boot to an X desktop with the "Install" icon and
the CD icon, but no panels. The Installer will start, but hangs on the
second page.
Work-round is to format the Ubuntu / partition. Install is progressing
nicely.
