I see similar OpenGL rendering problems with OpenArena.
Many (but not all) surfaces which are supposed to be solid are not
rendered, and instead bits of the rest of the world are smeared in

Pretty sure this is a dupe of bug #10895 "Gnome drawer applet delays and
unresponsiveness".
