Installing nvidia-173* packages seem to solve this problem. I had
artifacts from nvidia-96 and the nvidia-provided 280 drivers, and going
with the ubuntu-provided nvidia-173 left me with proper window
decorations.

Compiz crashed, but before apport-gtk would give me any useful
information, apport-gtk demanded that I uninstall the nvidia drivers I
installed in order to remedy problems I was having with nvidia drivers

I'm seeing this in software-update, screenshot, emacs, and xterm.
Additionally, gnome-terminal does not want to render to the foreground
making it unusable. This started happening today following an update.

I don't think this is specific to Firefox, I've hit this same bug with
Thunderbird and recently Google Chromium.
